About Richard

Richard helps software teams kick ass. He helps software development teams be successful, achieve awesomeness, and win.

Richard is an Agile coach-manager. As a manager, he has formal responsibility and authority. He has skin in the game, so he is strongly motivated to lead his team to success. But he's not a traditional manager, a dictator using command-and-control to coerce and intimidate. He manages in the style of a coach, creating physical, mental, and emotional space within which his team can succeed, guiding them and giving them the skills they need to win. He does this using Agile principles and practices. He uses Agile not because it's in fashion, but because when it's used rigorously, teams can't help but succeed.

At Nokia, Richard leads the software dev team for one of the world's largest social identity systems, coaches Agile software teams around the world, and is the founder and leader of Nokia's Boston-area Agile community. He contributes to the larger Agile community in the United States and elsewhere.
